Stuff and Stuffed

I was going to gush and swoon about Bo Bice, by the way he lost to that kari kayu kat bawah, but right now Che Anwar is mersmerizing me with some mind blowing speedy guitar riffs in the tune of some classic S*dom piece. Bo can go back to Alabama lah! My very own rockstar is practising for an upcoming gig on Sunday, and that gig is dedicated to me apparently. And I'm going to partay like it's mah birthday!
Walaupun kekasihku dah tak panjang rambutnya dan tak berjambang, aku tak kira, rocktar aku jugaklah yang paling gerek.

Wait a minute, is he trying to tell me that I won't be getting a present in a little blue box this time around? I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I am going to drop giant hints and drag him to Liz Clairborne at Paragon. 70% Discount you....I might pick that lime green diaper bag to match my MIL's tote and flipflops (so that we can go boria this hari raya) and those mommie jeans. *evil laugh*

Can what, pakaliau shopping for hari raya...And oh, how do I love shopping at Paragon. They have a spanking new Toys"R"Us too. Ma won't feel too selfish then.

A family friend told me this morning, he dreamt that all of his teeth fell out. I told him that someone close to you is going to die, and I said like it was a curse on him. I actually sounded like a witch ( as depicted in movies and folklore). Then it dawned to me, maybe the person who is going to die is ME?

Why is it that when one's birthday is drawing near, one might feel that one won't make it to the next one? Anyway...moving on.

Yesterday's playdate was, well, as usual, did not happen as we planned it. Aishah did not want to leave my inlaws' place, we stayed over for 2 nights because I missed my mom and my MIL would know what to say (and what to feed me) in order to pacify my homesick nerves. Oyy, why I digress lah?

I was a wee bit late for the playdate. Malaysian time late. So it was okay since the host is Malaysian. How rude of me. One playdate could not make it, and one mommie was feeling a bit under the weather, so picnic was cancelled. Instead we spent time in the kitchen exploring the textures, smells and tastes of food and fruits. We had kiwi, mangoes, bananas, lemons, mandarins and apples. They got to learn opposites too. How cute it was to see their contorted faces when things were sour or bitter. Later we had cake. Zana made Nigella Lawson's Butterscotch Layer Cake. Definite sabotage on my diet.

Diet? What diet? I'd like to maintain a constant state of dieting, or thinking that I am always on a diet. What goes into my mouth is a different story all together. Anwar says that our diet is called, "Makan sampai terbodoh". Luckily our guilt was salved by a good 30 minute of void deck football before it was time to go home. Calories burnt? None whatsoevahhh!

What did I have for lunch today? Pickled steak. Weird huh? Well, it's not as disgusting as it sounds. I had some sirloin marinated in malt vinegar and spices for a dinner that did not happen. So the steaks were left to be cured in vinegar in my fridgelah. The beef was throughly cooked by the marinade that I only needed to pan fry it for a few seconds and I was ready to go. I decided to have them for lunch today. Made a gigantic tomato, aubergine, fragrant garlic, olives and pimiento (learnt this word for bell pepper from a Grasshopper in Madrid) bruschetta, with mozzarella of course, just in case the steak did not work. Aishah made mini ones for herself too. And then there were corn on the cob and spaghetti aglio olio, just in case the bruschetta did not come out right.

It was a great day in the kitchen that all the three of us are now slumped on the couch terbodoh until our next meal. *burp* Alhamdulillah. Excuse me while I nurse a mild case of indigestion. Fida, will the cardamom tea work for this one?

Okay, I am back!

Banyak le aku punya 2 minggu nak blogging break eh?

Before I develop any separation anxiety or withdrawal symptoms after having not blogged for what felt like forever (technically, posting pictures and bloghopping are not blogging okay), I think a wee widdle entry would do me good.

Thank you so much for all those wonderful comments about the pictures I had plastered all over my blog. I still have them in my haloscan if you are wondering if I have deleted them all.

So, what have I accomplished while in absentia.

Since about a week ago, Aishah has only watched Barney twice. She has not asked for that purple fatso for days now. Yeay! In fact the tv is hardly switched on. Unless there's Bo Bice of course.

I find myself cooking every meal. That means baking for breakfast, cooking a full meal for lunch, a different do at dinner and of course there were LOADS of snacks in between. My commis chef Aishah is a kitchenhand from heaven indeed. She eats better and more enthusiastically now that she can own up to the culinary magic that gets to the dinner table. Ma, on the other hand is accountable for the disasters that sometimes happen.

I spend less time at home now to keep those detergents and my trusted magiclean mop well at bay. Also, to keep my house smudge and spill free, we mess up Grandma's place instead.
I have taken Aishah to the airport to see the airplanes that she's been praying for. Well, actually she has been making du'a for a helicopter, but Ma does not know where can we find one. So Aishah settles with, "In my imagilation, Aishah fly rochet up high inner sky"- In my imagination, Aishah flies a rocket up high in the sky. Rocket pulak dah....
We've been to Seletar Farms where she could see all those characters in old Mcdonald's song. It was eduational even for me. I saw pelicans, storks and flamingos and learned to see the differences between them. We did a lot of park -hopping and animal/inset hunting, usually at pet stores.

Art wise, she has progressed from postmodernist expressionism to contemporary industrial installations. She has figured out how she could make a snowman without snow. She balanced the watering can's nozzle on top of my little pinkish red amethyst water feature and placed the rotating crystal ball right on top. For effect, she sprinkled generously my hydroculture pebbles around the bowl that's holding the crystals. That's supposed to be snow. She also arranged some rubber bands to look like flowers around her "snowman".
Just now I brought her to a pet store and she had a good time with the fishes. Luckily the rats, guineas and hamsters were in tall acrylic boxes otherwise I'd have trouble tearing her away from those cuddlies.

I am preparing flash cards for her playdate tomorrow. We are going to learn about tastes and opposites tomorrow. I will bring lemon, bittergourd, sugarless lollies and what nots. I hope the tots would leave us mommies guilt free, oggling and cheering on Bo Bice homestretch finale. Teach and tire them out just so that they'll take a nap while we enjoy afternoon tea and kueh Bo yang yumm yummy. That's if I miss the 8 am result show tomorrow lah.

After that, if the weather permits, we'd go for a little picnic at Pasir Ris Park. I'll make mini burgers and fruit salad kalau rajin. Maybe I should bring painting supplies also. Who knows Aishah might be inspired to paint some coconut trees. She has already told me she wanted to paint a certain paide lily fawer (spider lily flower) at the park. Maybe we can also collect colorful rocks huh? I used to like that when I was a kid( Now I collect Ice- up sikit satu maqam kan tenah? )

How tiring and cumbersom it is to be prudent. To save money and not send my child to a real playgroup. My friends and I have put together a wee widdle pwaygroup for our kids because we absolutely refuse to pay people to play with our kids. They are just two, no rush to learn the books. I'd rather spend SGD600 at the Great Singapore Sale, lagi bagus than paying playgroup operators.

We don't really know what we're doing. To see if we would not ruin our kids for life, we have engaged an early child development cum speech and drama teacher to pop in every now and then. We are hoping that one day we can take turns to go out without our excess baggage in tow and go pamper ourselves while our YaYa sisters babysit. Meanwhile I really do not mind the tea and cake post-playdates for the mommies.
So much for a wee widdle entry eh? OK dah, 20 minutes blogging limit over!

Lawak Gaban

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.
In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved.
You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.
You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.
Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.
Your risk of cheating is low. Even if you're tempted, you'd try hard not to do it.
You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.
In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

What Are The Keys To Your Heart?
Lawak because it hits home. Spot on.
